Team GB Success for Young Kickboxers

Talon Chambers, Nesta Baxter and Chelsea Leggatt have all recently received their official letters to confirm their place on WAKO Team Great Britain for 2017. The three young athletes all fight and train out of Evolution Martial Arts in Boston, Lincolnshire under their Head Coach Linda Baxter. Upon earning their place they will represent their country at the upcoming WAKO Junior and Cadet European Championships in Skopje, Macedonia.

The selection process to earn a spot on the kickboxing Great Britain Team started back in February at the WAKO British Championships in Birmingham where their performance/ position was rated by selectors, their place was also given on their performance at previous international events and training at the relevant Team GB Squad Training sessions across the country.

For Talon Chambers, 11, this will be his first year to represent Great Britain, however this will be the 2nd opportunity for Chelsea Leggatt, 17, after she competed for GB last year at the WAKO Kickboxing Junior and Cadet World Championships in Dublin, Ireland. For Nesta Baxter, 17, this will be her 5th consecutive year to represent her country after international success over the last 5 years with the team becoming both World and European Champion, Nesta hopes this year to retain her European title in Macedonia which she claimed in Spain.

The three are currently training hard in their preparation camp ahead of the European Championships where Talon will compete in the Younger Cadet Boys (10-12yrs) +47kg Point Fighting, Chelsea will compete in the Junior Girls (16-18yrs) +70kg Point Fighting and Light Continuous and Nesta will be competing in the Junior Girls (16-18yrs) -60kg Point Fighting, Light Continuous and Kick Light.

Talon, Chelsea and Nesta all travelled to Lilleshall National Sports and Conference Centre along with John Chambers on the weekend of 22nd and 23rd of July. The weekend was the WAKO Kickboxing Team Great Britain Training Weekend Camp, the four had some outstanding training where they were able to learn from top class coaches from across the country and spar with GBs best fighters. Over the gruelling but enjoyable weekend the four trained for approximately 12 hours over 2 days which included an early morning run, agility and strength training as well as sparring sessions.
