Nesta wins Silver and Bronze at the EUSA European University Games 2019
Over the first week of August Nesta Baxter from Boston, Lincolnshire represented Newcastle University and WAKO Team Great Britain at the EUSA European University Combat Games 2019. Nesta represented Newcastle University, where she studies Medicine and Surgery, and the WAKO Kickboxing Great Britain Team. The event took place in Zagreb, Croatia alongside three other combat sports.
The competition was full of top class fighters from across Europe representing their universities. This was the first time that WAKO Kickboxing featured in the university games and lived up to all expectations. Therefore as part of making history with WAKO Kickboxing Nesta Baxter achieved a well deserved Silver and Bronze medal.

Nesta Baxter was selected to represent Great Britain over the four disciplines of WAKO Kickboxing, Taekwondo, Judo and Karate to carry the Great Britain Flag at the EUSA University European Combat Games. This was a huge honour on Nesta’s behalf to carry the GB Flag at such a large event whilst representing Newcastle University and WAKO GB Kickboxing.

Nesta competed in the -65kg Point Fighting and Light Continuous categories. Nesta won a Silver in the Light Continuous category after making it through to the final after beating World Class competitors including the current 3rd World Ranked Fighter in the semi final. In the final, Nesta came up against a very strong Hungarian fighter. The fight was extremely close the whole way through each of the rounds. However it was the Hungarian fighter who took the Gold medal in the end by a slim margin. Nesta fought very well against some of the best in the world at a tough competition and so she is very proud to have finished her light continuous with a well deserved silver medal.
In the point fighting, Nesta achieved a Bronze medal after a strong win against a tough Irish fighter in the quarter finals, in the semi finals Nesta came up against the same fighter who she competed against in the Light Continuous finals, Andrea Busa of Budapest in Hungary. The fight was fantastic with Nesta giving everything until the final second however it was Busa who progressed to the finals and to win the category overall.
