The week of the 25th of August held host to the WAKO Kickboxing Junior European Championships in Gyor, Hungary. Talon Chambers and Mackenzie Warrant both 13 years old who train out of Evolution Martial Arts were selected to represent Team WAKO GB at these championships and had some fantastic performances at such a high level.

For Mackenzie Warrant this was his second year to be selected for the Great Britain squad after competing in Italy last year at the Junior World Championships. Mackenzie competed in the Older Cadet (13yrs-15yrs) Boys -47kg Point Fighting and Light Continuous divisions, in the Point Fighting Mackenzie was matched up against a Greek competitor and in the Light Continuous Mackenzie competed against a Bulgarian athlete. Mackenzie fought brilliantly in his fights and represented Great Britain with pride, impressing his coaches over the week.

For Talon Chambers this was his third year to be selected to represent Team Great Britain after winning a Bronze medal at last year’s World Championships. Talon competed in the Older Cadet (13-15yrs) Boys +69kg Point Fighting where he faced a strong Hungarian fighter, the fighting from Talon was brilliant taking it into extra time but it was the Hungarian who progressed to the next stage. Talon also had the opportunity to represent Team GB once again in the Team Event where the fighters fought really well through the preliminary rounds.

Although neither of the competitors achieved a medal at these championships, it is a massive achievement in itself to be able to step on the stage at such a high international event having been selected as one of the best in the country and represent Team Great Britain. The future is bright in the world of Kickboxing for both of these young athletes. This was both of their first times in this new age class so now they have their eyes set on being re-selected to represent Team GB at the Junior World Championships next year.

Mackenzie and Talon would like to say a huge thank you to all of the Great Britain Team, coaches and support staff. A massive thank you to all of the coaches and support from their club Evolution Martial Arts in Boston, Lincolnshire. Finally a thank you to the support from Acorn Taxis in aiding these youngsters on their journey in Kickboxing. Everyone is very proud of Mackenzie and Talon from Evolution Martial Arts as they fought outstandingly and this is only the start of their journey in WAKO Kickboxing.
