Evolution Martial Arts finish 7th at the National British WAKO Kickboxing Championships

On the weekend of the 15th and 16th of February, Evolution Martial Arts Kickboxers travelled to the Harvey Hadden Sports Centre in Nottingham to compete at the WAKO Kickboxing British National Championships 2020. Evolution Martial Arts was represented by thirteen athletes over the two day event and out of 72 teams, Evolution Martial Arts finished in 7th place nationally, a fantastic achievement for the Boston based not for profit club. The weekend ended with Evolution Martial Arts winning 7 Gold Medals so 7 new British National Champions, 6 Silver Medals and 11 Bronze Medals.

Saturday the 15th of February was the day of Light Continuous and Kick Light events.

First to become the new British National Champion was six year old Julia Kusyk in the Light Continuous -23kg children’s female category. Emily Greatrix, 12, became the new British National Champion in the Light Continuous -42kg Younger Cadet Female category at only her first year competing at a national level. In the Kick Light divisions, Talon Chambers secured the National Title in the Kick Light +69kg Older Cadet Male category, Chelsea Leggatt became the National Champion in the Kick Light +70kg Senior Female category whilst Nesta Baxter became the National Champion in the Kick Light -60kg Senior Female category.

Taking Silver position in Light Continuous categories on the Saturday were Nesta Baxter in the Light Continuous -60kg Senior Female division and Emily Greatrix in the Light Continuous -47kg Younger Cadet Female division after stepping up a weight class.

National Bronze Medals were won by Talon Chambers in the Light Continuous +69kg Older Cadet Male division, Chelsea Leggatt in the Light Continuous +70kg Senior Female category, Nesta Baxter in the Light Continuous -65kg Senior Female division and Emily Greatrix in the higher age class of -42kg Older Cadet Female Light Continuous.

Runners up for the Saturday Events were Zac Baldry (5th place), Jack Greatrix (5th place) and Theo Ziobro Magalhaes (9th place).

Julia Kusyk winning her National British Title

Sunday the 16th of February consisted of the Point Fighting categories.

Evolution Martial Arts’ youngest competitor at the WAKO British National Championships 2020, six-year old Julia Kusyk became double National British Champion on the Sunday to add to her title from the Saturday. Julia became National British Champion in the Point Fighting Tiny Tots +20kg Mixed Gender as well as National British Champion in the Female Children’s -24kg Point Fighting.

Winning silver on the Sunday of competing was Nesta Baxter in the Point Fighting -60kg Senior Female, Talon Chambers in the Point Fighting +69kg Older Cadet Male and Sophie Doyle winning two silvers in the Point Fighting -30kg Children Female and the Point Fighting -33kg Children’s Female divisions.

Collecting Bronze on the second day of the National Championships 2020 were Chelsea Leggatt in the Point Fighting +70kg Senior Female, Paige Stedman in the Point Fighting -55kg Older Cadet Female, Mackenzie Warrant in the Point Fighting -52kg Older Cadet Male, Sophie Doyle in the Point Fighting -28kg Younger Cadet Female, Kenny Ilife in the Point Fighting -37kg Children’s Male and Olivia Green winning two bronze medals in the Point Fighting -65kg and +65kg Older Cadet Female categories.

Runners up for the Sunday Events were Jack Greatrix (5th place), Theo Ziobro Magalhaes (9th place) and Reece Ilife (9th place).

This has been one of the best weekends for the team of Evolution Martial Arts at the National British Championships which has been evident in the finishing result of 7th place nationally for the club. This has been a great start to the season of 2020 for the club with high hopes at all levels for the members.
