What a fantastic weekend we had at the GB Grand Slam in Bath! We may have taken a small team, but every single competitor gave it their all on the mats. The spirit, determination, and camaraderie on display were second to none — a weekend full of great fighting, big laughs, and proud moments.
Azrael Kusyk showed exceptional focus and creativity in the Open Hand Kata, putting in a lot of hard work that paid off with a well-deserved Gold medal. Great job, Az!
Willow Grogan had an outstanding day, stepping into multiple divisions and giving everything she had. She earned Bronze in Light Continuous after a tough match against a strong opponent. She then competed in a higher weight category than usual, showing real courage and coming away with a Silver medal. Finally, in her own division, she delivered some phenomenal performances and earned a Gold. Well done, Willow!
Winnie Grogan, our little warrior, fought bravely in the Tiny Tots -21kg division — often against boys — and gave it absolutely everything. She narrowly missed out on Gold but earned a fantastic Silver. Well done, Winnie!
Jessica Lawrence stepped up an age category to compete in Senior Female Kick Light and, as always, left it all on the mats. Her hard work and determination earned her a well-deserved Gold. Keep up the amazing work, Jessica!
Julia Kusyk competed in both her own weight category and one above, facing some very strong opponents. She battled hard and came away with a Bronze and a Runner-Up finish. Excellent performance, Julia!
Andrew Gregory had a brilliant weekend, showcasing his skill and consistency against some of the UK’s top fighters. He brought home Gold in Light Continuous, Silver in Kick Light, and a Runner-Up in Points. Superb effort, Andrew — your dedication always shines through.
Izabela Kusyk stepped up from the veterans' category to compete in the Ladies division and delivered a fantastic performance, earning a Runner-Up finish. Great job, Izabela!
The whole team gave their all, supported one another, and truly embodied the spirit of martial arts. A special thank you to Andrew for all your help throughout the weekend, and to the parents for your support and encouragement — we couldn’t do it without you.
And finally, a big thank you to GB Grand Slam for hosting such a well-run and enjoyable tournament. We’re already looking forward to the next one!
