Six WAKO British National Titles for Evolution

On the weekend of Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th, Fighters from Evolution Martial Arts claimed six new British National Titles along with a collection of Medals at the WAKO Kickboxing British National Championships held at the North Solihull Sports Centre in Birmingham.

Nesta Baxter won an impressive five National British Titles while Jake Peppercorn won the National British Title in his division. Chelsea Leggatt won 2 silvers, Talon Chambers won a Silver whilst Paige Stedman won two bronzes and Zac Baldry a further Bronze. All of the fighters fought outstandingly in their divisions.

On Saturday 17th of February it was the day of Light Contact and Kick Light in which Evolution Martial Arts had 6 competitors competing across both disciplines.

Nesta Baxter, 17, claimed the first British National Title in the Junior Female (16-18yrs) -60kg Light Continuous Category, retaining her title from the past two years in this age division. The division was full of top class fighters and after making her way to the Final, Nesta came up against a very strong Welsh Fighter who is also part of Team GB. Nesta then went on to win her first Senior British National Title in the Senior Female Light Continuous -60kg. After beating a strong Scottish Fighter in a tough Semi Final Nesta then went on to fight and win in the Final against a Welsh Fighter. Nesta Baxter claimed her 3rd and 4th British National Titles of the Day and 2018 in the Junior (16-18yrs) and Senior Kick Light -60kg Divisions. This is a very good start to Nesta’s Final year as a junior where she is now looking to fight on the Great Britain Team for the 6th year running.

Chelsea Leggatt, 18, claimed a well deserved Silver Medal in the Junior Female (16-18yrs) +70kg Light Continuous after making it to the Semi Final where she beat a Welsh Fighter. In the final Chelsea came up against one of the top fighters in this division and fellow Team GB member, but after a very good fight Chelsea took a Silver.

Talon Chambers, 11, won a Silver in the Younger Cadet (10-12yrs) Boys +47kg Light Continuous after winning against a Fighter from Wales in the Semi Final he then came up against one of the best fighters in the division in the final but after a very close final fight, Talon settled for a Silver Medal.

Zac Baldry, 14, fought in the Older Cadet Boys (13-15yrs) -52kg Light Continuous Category where he won a Bronze Medal after missing out on a spot in the Final to the overall winner from Guildford who is a current member of the Great Britain Team. Zac fought very well to earn his bronze medal after some tough preliminary round fights in the Light Continuous.

Mackenzie Warrant, 11, and Riley Brocklesby, 10, both fought in the Boys Younger Cadet (10-12yrs) -42kg Light Continuous Category as well as Mackenzie fighting in the -37kg category as well. Mackenzie and Riley both fought very well, both just missing out on a Podium finish.

Sunday the 18th of February was the day of Point Fighting at the WAKO British National Championships where Evolution Martial Arts had 10 competitors all in the search of a ranking in the British Nationals.

Jake Peppercorn, 16, won his WAKO British National Title in the Junior Male (16-18yrs) -89kg Point Fighting after some fantastic fighting. In the final, Jake fought against a very good fighter from Telford. Jake fought outstandingly to finish off the fight with an eight point lead over his opponent to claim the Title. Jake then went on to fight in the Senior Men’s -89kg Point Fighting Division, in the quarter final round Jake won against a fighter from Bristol before proceeding to the Semi Final where he won due to TKO securing his place in the Final. In the Final of the Men’s -89kg Jake fought against a Scottish Fighter from the Kaizen Club, the fight was very close swinging back and forth between the two fighter however it was the Scottish Fighter who took the win with Jake securing a well deserved Silver.

After a successful Saturday for Nesta where she took Four National Titles, Nesta went on to fight in the Junior Female (16-18yrs) -60kg Point Fighting Division where she won her Fifth National Title of 2018 again retaining her title from last year. In this category Nesta fought against a high class competitor from ECKA in the Semi Final before coming up against a very good fighter from Northampton in the Final. Finally Nesta fought in the Senior Ladies -60kg Point Fighting Category making her way to the Semi Final where she faced a Scottish Fighter, the fight was close but ended with the other fighter proceeding to the Finals and Nesta settled for a Bronze and her final podium position of the weekend.

Chelsea Leggatt, 18, won her second Silver of the weekend in the Junior Female (16-18yrs) +70kg Point Fighting Division. In the Semi Final, Chelsea fought against a good fighter from Sheffield and beat this opponent after a very good performance from Chelsea. Chelsea then went through to the final in which she fought against a competitor from ACMAC, the fight was close but it was Chelsea’s opponent who took the win and Chelsea won the Silver.

Paige Stedman, 12, won two Bronzes on the Sunday in Point Fighting in the Younger Cadet Girls (10-12yrs) -42kg and -46kg after some very good performances. In the -42kg division Paige won against a very good fighter from Sheffield due to TKO in the Quarter Finals before going through to the Semi Finals where she narrowly missed out on a spot in the finals.

In the -46kg division Paige fought really well but lost out in the Semi Final to a strong kicker from Bolton.

Zac Baldry, Olivia Green, Riley Brocklesby, Mackenzie Warrant, Teegan Aldis and Talon Chambers all fought very well in their individual categories with many of them finishing off their competition in fourth place position. Some exceptional wins against Scottish, Bristol and Welsh were some of the highlights of these fighters’ performances.

All of the Evolution fighters fought exceptionally well against all of their opponents at this very high level national competition. Finishing off the National Championships with 6x Gold, 4x Silver and 4x Bronze is one of the best results for the club in recent years at the WAKO British National Championships.
